Overview
Dow Jones Target Date Indexes℠ are designed to measure the performance of multi-asset-class portfolios. The indexes were designed as benchmarks for the growing category of "lifecycle" funds, which are typically used to plan for retirement or other long-term savings goals. The indexes automatically adjust their asset allocations over time to reflect reductions in potential risk as an investor’s target date approaches.
Dow Jones Target Date Indexes℠
The Dow Jones Target Date Indexes℠ were created to benchmark portfolios of stocks, bonds and cash. Each index is made up of composite indexes representing these three asset classes. The asset class indexes are weighted differently within each target date index depending on the time horizon. Each month, the allocations among the asset class indexes are rebalanced to reflect an increasingly conservative asset mix.
The Dow Jones Target Date Index℠ family currently includes global and U.S. indexes with target dates extending through 2055. New indexes are expected to be added in five-year increments.
