Overview

Dow Jones Target Date Indices are designed to measure the performance of multi-asset-class portfolios. The indices were designed as benchmarks for the growing category of "lifecycle" funds, which are typically used to plan for retirement or other long-term savings goals. The indices automatically adjust their asset allocations over time to reflect reductions in potential risk as an investor’s target date approaches.

Dow Jones Target Date Indices

The Dow Jones Target Date Indices were created to benchmark portfolios of stocks, bonds and cash. Each index is made up of composite indices representing these three asset classes. The asset class indices are weighted differently within each target date index depending on the time horizon. Each month, the allocations among the asset class indices are rebalanced to reflect an increasingly conservative asset mix.

The Dow Jones Target Date Index family currently includes global and U.S. indices with target dates extending through 2055. New indices are expected to be added in five-year increments.
