Introduction

This document describes the Dow Jones Indexes (DJI) universe mapping file. The mapping file provides a correlation between the DJI market sector/industry group codes and all the components that Dow Jones Indexes considers potential DJI components.

DJI Mapping File

DJI mapping file is a tab separated text file.

Naming Convention

DJI data file naming convention is as follows:
The first two characters indicate the type of data contained in the file:

un -- file contains all components tracked by Dow Jones Indexes.

us -- file contains all U.S. components tracked by Dow Jones Indexes.

The next three characters indicate whether or not the CUSIP field is populated:

_n_ -- file does not contain CUSIP.

_a_ -- file does contain CUSIP.

The remaining characters represent the file relevance date in the date format: MMDD.

The file name date stamp represents the last effective trading date, i.e., if the file is generated past midnight, it will retain the previous day's date.

General File Structure

DJI mapping file is a tab delimited text file that contains a collection of data records delimited by "CRLF". This structure allows easy parsing and provides a simple way to import data into a spreadsheet or database.

Records

Records in the DJI data files are a contiguous collection of variable length fields. The fields are delimited by a tab. Each record is related to a particular component.

Fields

Fields in the DJI data files are ASCII representations for numeric, character (alphanumeric), date, and text data. A zero length field will be used if a particular field's data is not applicable in the record.

Character (alphanumeric) fields are not case sensitive. The character field may include digits and spaces.

File Format

This section provides the file format for the DJI mapping file.

Universe Mapping Files

Content

This file contains internal identifiers, external identifiers, country data, component name and market sector/industry group codes. The file name is "un_a_[MMDD].txt".
