Overview
Dow Jones Indexes offers a variety of indexes covering the fixed income asset class. Available are both corporate and government bond indexes, as well as specialized sukuk indexes.
Dow Jones Corporate Bond Index℠
The Dow Jones Corporate Bond Index℠ is an equally weighted basket of 96 recently issued investment-grade corporate bonds with laddered maturities. The index intends to measure the return of readily tradable, high-grade U.S. corporate bonds. It is priced daily.
Subindexes are available for yield-curve brackets of two, five, 10 and 30 years, and the indexes are further subdivided into indexes that cover the Industrial, Utilities/Telecom and Financial sectors as defined by Industry Classification Benchmark (ICB).
The index is calculated by Ryan Labs, a fixed-income asset manager and a leader in the creation and publication of fixed-income indexes. Additional information on the index is available on the Ryan Labs Web site.
Dow Jones Corporate Bond Index℠
The Dow Jones CBOT Treasury Index℠ is a real-time benchmark of default-free U.S. capital market returns that is designed to offer an accurate and broad-based indicator of market performance. It is weighted by the modified duration of CBOT 30-year T-bond, 10-year T-note, and 5-year T-note futures contracts, thus each component’s contribution to index valuation is consistent with its position along the risk-reward curve.
The Dow Jones CBOT Treasury Index℠ is updated in real time—every 15 seconds or whenever a component trades. Index pricing is transparent as it is based on easily observable CBOT futures transactions.
The Dow Jones CBOT Treasury Index℠ is owned by the CBOT and calculated and distributed by Dow Jones Indexes. Additional information on the index is available on the CME Group Web site.
Dow Jones LATixx Indexes℠
The Dow Jones LATixx Indexes℠ are a comprehensive family of fixed-income indexes for Latin America. The indexes were created through a unique collaboration among Dow Jones Indexes, LVA Indices (LVA) of Chile, and Proveedor Integral de Precios (PiP) of Mexico—leveraging a unique combination of indexing experience and infrastructure, local market knowledge, and fixed-income expertise.
The Dow Jones LATixx Index℠ family currently includes a full suite of corporate and government bond indexes for Chile and Mexico. The family is slated for future expansion, and will ultimately cover all of the major markets of Latin America. Additional information on the index family is available at www.latixx.com.
Dow Jones Citigroup® Sukuk Index℠
The Dow Jones Citigroup® Sukuk Index, offered by Dow Jones Indexes and Citigroup Index LLC, measures the performance of global bonds that comply with Islamic investment guidelines. The index is made up of investment-grade, U.S. dollar-denominated Islamic bonds—also known as sukuk. The index was created as a benchmark for investors seeking exposure to Shari’ah-compliant fixed-income investments.
The index shares design criteria and calculation assumptions with the broader Citigroup fixed-income index family, and its screens for Shari’ah compliance are consistent with those of the Dow Jones Islamic Market (DJIM) Indexes.
To be included in the index, a bond must comply with both Shari'ah Law and the Bahrain-based Auditing & Accounting Organization of Islamic Financial Institutions (AAOIFI) standards for tradable sukuk. It also must have a minimum maturity of one year, a minimum issue size of US$200 million, and an explicit or implicit rating of at least BBB-/Baa3 by leading rating agencies.
